    • Method and system for coating medical implants utilizing a pan coater to apply a coating is provided. A system for coating the implant may include a rotatable drum, a source or multiple sources of therapeutic coating, a spray nozzle for spraying the coating into the interior of the rotatable drum, a source of compressible fluid for drying the coating, a reservoir for recovery of excess therapeutic coating, and a processor. The processor in this embodiment may control the rotation of the rotatable drum, the time and volume of spray through the spray nozzle, and the time, volume and temperature of the flow of compressible fluid into the drum.

    • A non-fluidized bed apparatus for coating tablets has a base plate (3) of which a portion (6) of the upper surface is inclined towards an upward directed two-fluid or three-fluid nozzle (5). Ducts (7) through the base plate around the nozzle produce jets of process gas in a direction intersecting an imaginary centre line of the spray produced by the nozzle. Atomizing gas from the nozzle is muffled shortly after it has left the nozzle to decrease the upward scattering effect of said gas on the tablets being coated. No partition is used for separating upward and downward flow of tablets during the coating process. In the coating process the amount of atomizing gas supplied to the nozzle is limited to reduce the tablet scattering effect of said gas.

    • A system and method for conveying and dispersing a fluid, particularly a low-shear tolerant fluid, onto a granulated material using at least two spray nozzles. Using at least two spray nozzles achieves the same total flow rate as a single nozzle, but reduces the pressure and shear forces on the fluid, allowing fluids containing biological components to be sprayed at the same total flow rate without damaging the biological components. A conveyor or chute transports the granulated material in a wide, thinner laminar plane under the spray nozzles. The spray nozzles are supported above the conveyor or chute and are adjustable as to height and angle. An optional blow-off nozzle directs compressed gas to clean the spray nozzles when fluid spraying has stopped.
