The seat apparatus is then lifted or lowered into a viewing room (38), where the audience members view 2D or 3D motion picture images on a screen (54). The lifting or lowering may be achieved via winches and cables (34) of a lifting system (26) near the top of the theater. In this design, the movement is substantially vertical. The seat apparatus typically has multiple rows of seats, which may tilt front to back, optionally with actuators behind the seats to create the impression of forward movement. The theater may be designed so that when in the boarding space, the audience members cannot sense that they are in a motion simulation theater.
