摘要： The invention provides a surgical bone tie for use in joining abutting bone surfaces for fusing or knitting of the bone together, the tie comprising first and second pieces each having a proximal end region and a distal end region which define a longitudinal axis therebetween, wherein the distal end regions are each provided with a mounting feature for fixing, or permitting the fixing, of each piece to respective underlying portions of bone, wherein the proximal end regions of each pieces are adapted for engagement together along said axis so that one proximal end region may be accommodated by the other proximal end region to provide a bridge between the respective distal end regions, the engagement permitting one way travel of one piece progressively towards the other so that the bridge length becomes progressively smaller until a desired amount of separation between the distal end regions is obtained, and the a desired compression between the abutting bones is obtained. The engagement between the proximal end regions preferably comprises a ratchet and pawl connection.

摘要： An osteotomy system includes anchoring screws and advancement screws having a head with a surface defining a first angled plane. A plate has anchoring holes and advancement holes with countersunk surfaces defining respective second angled planes for compression or distraction. The first angled plane contacts one of the second angled planes upon tightening an advancement screw, causing advancement of the plate and step compression or distraction of one bone segment relative to another. In another embodiment, a wedge has a surface defining a first angled plane. A plate has one portion with inclined surfaces defining second angled planes. An advancement screw tightens the first angled plane against one of the second angled planes to advance one of the plate body portions for compression or distraction of one bone segment attached thereto relative to another segment. A plate, a method, a drill guide and a saw guide are also provided.

摘要： A dynamic cervical plate includes a middle section positioned between a first end section and a second end section. The end sections are longitudinally repositionable with respect to the middle section. Each section includes a plurality of openings for receiving threaded fasteners such as a self-starting screw or a self-tapping screw. In addition, each section includes an orifice for releasably mating with a drill guide. Each of the end sections also includes a notch at one end for aligning with the drill guide. In one embodiment, a pin is used to interconnect the sections. In other embodiments, support bars are used to limit flexure between sections.

摘要： Translational bone fixation assemblies, kits containing such assemblies, and methods of use are described herein. The described assemblies may be used in spinal fusion procedures in which a damaged or diseased disc (or part of a disc) is removed from between a pair of vertebrae and a spinal fusion spacer is placed between the vertebrae. The assemblies may be applied to an anterior portion of the affected vertebrae to span the affected disc space, and may be fixed to the vertebrae using bone screws. The assemblies may function to maintain the vertebrae aligned during the initial period following fixation in which fusion of the spacer to the adjacent vertebrae occurs. The assemblies may also function to share some of the axial spinal load applied to the fusion spacer to prevent extreme subsidence of the spacer into the vertebral body, such as where the patient has poor bone quality.

摘要： A device for lengthening bone in a human or animal by incrementally extending the distance between discrete separated portions of the bone to permit continued bone growth between the separated portions comprising an intramedullary nail having distal and proximal portions both of which are secured within the medullar canal of the bone. A hydraulic cylinder is connected to the proximal portion and a piston is connected to the distal portion of the nail. An implantable supply of operating fluid communicates with the cylinder and ratcheting mechanism, between the piston and cylinder, limit their relative movement. A shock absorber mechanism permits limited lost motion between the piston and cylinder and ratcheting release means are employed to permit the piston and cylinder to reverse directions. Various interchangeable distal tips are disclosed to accommodate not only different bones but differently shaped medullar canals.

摘要： Described is an artificial vertebra designed to be implanted in place of one or more damaged vertebrae, the artifical vertebra having two bracket plates designed to rest against the ends of the neighbouring stable vertebrae. The bracket plates have spikes for anchoring them in these neighbouring vertebrae and are connected to each other by a brace whose length can be adjusted. The brace (9) is disposed out of the longitudinal axis of the artificial vertebra (1), as defined by the line joining the mid-points of the two bracket plates (4). The brace (9) has two flat bars (7, 8) with, on the two facing sides, rows of teeth (14) which engage with each other, the bars (7, 8) being joined to each other by a bolt (17). An empty space is left between the bracket plates (4) to hold an implant (32) made of natural and/or synthetic material. Also described is a device for handling the artificial vertebra, in particular for inserting it.

摘要： An implantable fixation device for rejoining opposed portions of a separated bone. The device including two corresponding plates that are configured to be aligned and coupled to a bone, such as a sternum, pre-resection of the bone or prior to cutting / separating the bone. The placement of the corresponding plates provides a gap between the edges of the plates that face one another allowing for and guiding a cutting tool for separating the bone. After the bone has been cut and the desired surgical procedure performed, the plates also assist in realigning and fixation of the bone portions. At least one plate includes a ratchet mechanism that is configured to tighten a locking element and draw the two plates together and into alignment with one another.
