    • Drinking-water valves (10) enable animals such as hens to operate their water supply themselves. By moving a rod (18), the hens open the valve (10), thus allowing a given quantity of water (per unit time) to come out. Since the drinking-water requirements of a hen change as the hen develops, however, the water supply provided by such valves does not always match the hen's requirements. The drinking-water valve (10) proposed by the invention is designed to provide a water supply which matches the hen's drinking-water requirements. Located between an upper rod (16) and a part of the valve housing (12) associated with the upper rod is a choke section (27) which can be adjusted to vary the amount of water which flows through. To this end, the upper rod (16) is designed, for instance, with sections (25, 26) of different diameter. Changing the relative position of the upper rod (16) in the housing (12) causes the choke section (27) to increase or decrease in size, thus allowing a smaller or larger amount of water to emerge (per unit time).
