    • A non-lethal method of cock fighting includes providing each gamecock (12a, 12b) with a garment such as a vest (16a, 16b) or collar (100a, 100b) that at least partially covers the body of the gamecock and carries a sensor (19a-19e, 103-107) at a predetermined location on the garment and a signal transmission device (20). The signal transmission device generates a signal when the sensor is struck by a gamecock. The spurs (12c) of each gamecock are covered with a protective device (60) to prevent the spurs from causing injury during the cock fight and their beaks (12d) are taped shut. A scoring apparatus (26) is provided that is responsive to the signal and includes a visual display that displays a numerical score for each gamecock. The numerical score is based, at least in part, on the number strikes detected by the sensor being struck over a predetermined time period during the cock fight.

    • The invention concerns a device, in particular for pheasants and partridges, comprising a piece with two branches (3, 4) interconnected by a crosspiece (5), which is urged to be located in front of the beak while the two branches are urged to be positioned on either side of the beak. Each branch comprises on the inside, a projecting fastening lug (6, 7) capable of being engaged in a nostril of the fowl, and further in front, transverse retaining means (R) capable of being engaged between the two parts of the beak. The transverse retaining means (R) are arranged to leave the branches (3, 4) free to be spaced at its own level when the device is set, and closing means (F) capable of being unlocked are provided in a zone of the branches further away from the crosspiece (5).

    • Improved anti-pecking devices, particularly for poultry and game birds, comprise a pair of limbs (10, 20) having end portions (11, 21) of reduced cross section which engage the nostrils of the bird or other animal, at least one bit member (30) connecting the limbs (10, 20), and a guard member (40) which projects forwardly from the limbs (10, 20) beyond the end of the beak of the bird. The forward end of the guard (40) may be split. The device may further include resilient bias members (13, 23) which bear upon the upper surface of the beak, in use. Orther variations include guard members which extend laterally outwards form the sides of the limbs (10, 20) and multiple bit members spaced apart along the length of the device. The size and configuration of the device and its constituent parts may be varied to suit different sizes and species of bird. The devices are configured to be stackable, such that they may be stored in a cartridge or magazine for application using an automated fitting device.

    • A device for the application of fastening members (particularly beak bits for game birds) comprises an elongate handle (2) enclosing a slidable assembly (3) of pivotable jaw members (4, 5), the ends of which are adapted to receive a bit (8). The assembly (3) is slidable between a retracted position, wherein a bit (8) is loaded into the jaws (4, 5) from a magazine (9), and an extended position wherein the jaws (4, 5) may be opened and closed to effect application of the bit (8). The assembly (3) is biased towards its retracted position and may be locked in its extended position. All sliding, locking and pivoting actions of the jaws (4, 5) are controlled by thumb pressure on an actuating member (14) extending through a slot (16) in the side of the handle (2). The bits (8) are generally C-shaped and include an indentation which co-operates with a ridge (10) in the magazine (9) and which provides other advantages.
