    • The invention refers to a bale forming apparatus and method. When operated in a bale forming mode the apparatus forms a round bale in a baling chamber arrangement with a circumferential wall between two sidewalls. A movable chamber part is pivotally mounted at a fixed chamber part. Several conveying units convey the bale along the circumferential wall. The apparatus can be transferred into a bale ejecting mode. The movable chamber part is pivoted away from the fixed chamber part(FH). One conveying unit (pCU) is mounted at one chamber part (Tg) and is adjacent to the other chamber part(FH). In a bale forming mode the adjacent conveying unit (pCU)contributes to convey the loose material in the chamber arrangement. In the bale forming position the adjacent conveying unit (pCU) engages into a receiving aperture in the other chamber part (FH). The adjacent conveying unit (pCU)can be pivoted away from the other chamber part (FH) and out of the receiving aperture. Pivoting away the adjacent conveying unit (pCU) increases the aperture for ejecting a bale out of the bale forming chamber as the adjacent conveying unit (pCU) is pivoted out of the receiving aperture (Ap.W).Preferably the adjacent conveying unit (pCU) is pivotally mounted.

    • A baler (10) for forming crop bales (24) and releasing or dropping the bales (24) at targeted drop locations (34, 36) in a field (32) includes a bale-forming chamber (12), a bale carrier (14) rearward of the bale forming chamber (12), a geographic location sensor (18), and a control system (16). The bale-forming chamber(12) forms the bales (24) and the bale carrier (14) supports at least one crop bale (24) thereon and releases the bale (24) therefrom when actuated. The geographic location sensor (18) outputs signals corresponding with a geographic location of the baler (10). The control system (16) has a plurality of targeted bale drop locations (34, 36) stored therein, and is configured to calculate a distance from the current baler (10) position to a first targeted drop position (34) and calculate a distance from the current baler (10) position to a second targeted drop position (36) and compare the distances to determine a desired drop location to generate a signal to command the bale carrier (14) to release the crop bale (24) therefrom.

The apparatus includes a chipper assembly having a chipping mechanism operable to reduce the trimmed branches to wood chips. Also provided is a bale forming assembly operatively connected to the chipper assembly. The bale forming assembly has a housing and a baling mechanism contained within an interior space of the housing. The housing has an opening defined therein for receiving wood chips from the chipper assembly. The opening provides access to the interior space of the housing. The baling mechanism is operable to form a bale from the wood chips produced by the chipper assembly. A method for reducing trimmed branches to wood chips and for forming a bale from the wood chips produced, is also disclosed.
