    • A lifting jack (10) comprising a jacking portion (11) carried on a mobile frame (13). The jacking portion (11) includes a jacking ram (15) and has a jacking axis (61) corresponding to the direction along which the jacking ram (15) can extend. The jacking portion (11) also has a base (19) adapted for engagement with the ground (23) with the jacking axis (61) extending substantially vertically. The mobile frame (13) supports the jacking portion (11) for movement across the ground (23) and includes two ground wheels (33) rotatable about a substantially horizontal axis The jacking portion (11) has a first mode of operation in which the base (19) is in engagement with the ground (23) and the jacking axis (61) extends substantially vertically. The jacking portion (11) also has a second mode of operation in which the base (19) is elevated above the ground (23) and the jacking axis (61) extends substantially vertically. The jacking portion (11) also has a third mode of operation in which the jacking portion (11) has been rotated upwardly about the horizontal axis into a tilted condition facilitating wheeling movement of the lifting jack over the ground.

    • Apparatus (10) to facilitate safe removal of a lock ring (11) from a wheel rim assembly (13) to which a tyre (15) is fitted. The wheel rim assembly (13) further comprises a rim base (17) and a removable outer side flange (19). The apparatus (10) comprises a base portion (31) adapted to be releasably attached to the rim base (17) and a catch portion (33) for catching the lock ring (11) as it separates from the rim base (17). The base portion (31) is configured as a strut (35) adapted to be clampingly engaged with the rim base (17). The strut (35) has opposed first and second end sections (37, 38) configured to abut diametrically opposed sided of the rim base (17), whereby the strut can be clampingly engaged with the rim base between the diametrically opposed sides thereof. The catch portion (33) comprises an upper formation (71) and a lower formation (73) adapted to cooperate to receive and retain the lock ring 11. When the tyre (15) is to be removed, the strut (35) is installed onto the rim base (17) and the lock ring (11) is removed. If the lock ring (11) is propelled out of engagement with the rim base (17) under the force of its spring loading, it is intercepted in its trajectory by the upper and lower formations (71, 73). Once the lock ring (11) has settled in the cradle defined by the upper formation (71), it can be lifted from the apparatus (10).
