摘要： An implant (100) for placing in the spine is disclosed. The implant has a.tool engaging surface (128) on its trailing end configured for intimate engagement with an insertion tool (200). The insertion tool configuration is particularly suited for implants made of brittle materials including bone and bone substitutes. Also disclosed is an insertion tool having a gripping end (230) adapted for intimate engagement with an implant. In one embodiment, the insertion tool is operable by axial movement of one gripping arm (234) with respect to the other (232).

摘要： Surgical techniques and instruments are provided for performing surgical procedures in a disc space. The instrument (45) includes a sleeve (50) having a distal end (56) and an opposite proximal end (54) and a working channel (52) extending therebetween. The working channel (52) includes a first portion (52a) and an adjacent second portion (52b) configured to receive surgical instruments therethrough. A cap member (150) is secured to the sleeve (50) at the proximal end (54). The cap member (150) has a sealable access port (154) substantially aligned with a corresponding one of the first or second portions (52a, 52b). The cap member (150) is movable with respect to the sleeve (50) to substantially align the access port (154) with the other of the first and second portions (52a, 52b) while the working channel (52) remains sealed. Various techniques using various surgical instruments in laparoscopic procedures are also disclosed.

摘要： Methods and instrumentation particularly adapted for disc space preparation for insertion of implants from an anterior approach to the spine are provided. The instruments include a guide sleeve (400) defining a channel (430) having overlapping cylindrical working channel portions (407, 409) and lateral non-distracting extensions (418, 420) extending from reduced thickness wall portions (414, 415). The guide sleeve (400) has an overall reduced width configuration. A pair of distractors (356, 386) are provided. A first distractor (350) includes a shaft (354) and distal tip (356), each having convex walls. A second distractor (380) includes a shaft (384) and distal tip (386) including a recessed area (394) at least along the tip (386). The first distractor (350) is at least partially received within the recessed area (394) of the second distractor (380) when the first and second distractors (350, 380) are in side-by-side relation and a reduced overall width of the distractors (350, 380) is obtained. Preferably, the first and second distractors (350, 380) are used with the guide sleeve (400). Methods using the disclosed instruments are also provided.

摘要： Methods and instrumentation particularly adapted for disc space preparation for insertion of implants from an anterior approach to the spine are provided.
