    • Thus, according to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of determining the TOC of a purified water stream, comprising at least the steps of: (a) passing a supply water stream through a water purification apparatus including an oxidiser to provide a purified water stream, and dispensing at least a portion of the purified water stream; (b) stopping the dispense of the purified water stream and recirculating the purified water stream as a recirculating water stream through at least a portion of the water purification apparatus including the oxidiser to provide a re-oxidised water stream; and (c) Measuring the conductivity value of the re-oxidised water stream to determine the TOC of the purified water stream. In this way, a determination of the TOC of the purified water stream of step (a) can be provided without requiring a dedicated TOC monitor at the point of dispense of the purified water stream.

    • An electronic measuring system is described. It comprises a switch having a plurality of selectable inputs, the switch being controlled by a controller to select which of the plurality of inputs is fed to an output of the switch. The measuring system optionally includes a verification means to verify operation of the system. The verification means typically forms one or more inputs to the switch. In certain embodiments, the verification means comprises one or more fixed resistors. The output of the system is typically monitored when the or each resistor forms a part thereof. The output of the system is typically compared against previous outputs to determine if there is any change in the output. Any change in the output can be indicative of errors or other problems in the system.

    • An automated method for determining the cleaning operation of a water treatment or water distribution apparatus or system to which one or more substances are added, the method comprising the steps of: (a) conducting one or more measurements of a property of the or an added substance; (b) comparing the property measurement s) from step (a) with at least one reference value for that property; and (c) determining when the comparison in step (b) is within, above or below a pre-determined range or level for that property. The determination in step (c) can consider whether the cleaning operation has been successfully carried out. The present invention automates and therefore optimises the cleaning operation of the water treatment or distribution apparatus or system such that expensive periods of non-operation during sanitisation or cleaning are minimised both in terms of frequency and duration.
