    • A fastening component may be the hook portion (910) or the loop portion of a typical fastener. The fastening elements and the base (910) may be unitary or of different precursors. The porous metal layer (915) may be embedded in the base portion (910) of the fastening component, or any backing substrate (930), or therebetween. The porous metal layer (915) may be fully or partially embedded. The porous metal (915) may be an expanded, perforated, woven or non-woven structure. The porous metal layer (915) may be incorporated into the substrate (930) that is formed from a precursor element that is separate from the base (910), and that is joined to the base (910). The porous metal layer (915) may also be located between the fastening elements, such as the hooks (916) or loops, and a protective cover, part of whose function is to provide foaming material from fouling the fastening elements. The porous metal containing layer (915) may be wholly metal, or it may be a composite of a non-metal phase and a metal phase. Rather than using a separate substrate (930) layer for anchoring such a fastener into a molded article being molded, a three-dimensional pattern may be embossed on the non-fastening surface of the fastener to aid in securing it to the molded article.

    • A separable fastener component for use with a complementary separable fastener component has a base member, having a nominal fastening face (404) and a non-fastening face. Carried on the fastening face (404) is a pattern of fastening elements, comprising a main region (408) carrying fastening elements. Substantially surrounding the main region is a bald region (410) that is substantially free of fastening elements; and substantially surrounding the bald region, is a perimeter region that carries fastening elements (412). The bald region (410) may be a rectangular annulus, as may be the perimeter region of fastening elements. The bald and perimeter regions may also be non-rectangular. The sacrificial perimeter fastening elements may be hooks or loops. Anchoring elements (648) may be provided on the non-fastening face of the base. Rather than the bald region (410) being one that surrounds the main region (408), it may bound a portion of the main region and may be a pair of bald regions that are substantially free of fastening elements. Adjoining each of the bald regions is a bounding region that carries hook-type fastening elements, arranged such that each bald region is sandwiched between said main region and a respective bounding region. The fastening component may be incorporated into a molded product, with minimal intrusion of the molding material into the fastening elements of the main region (408). A method of making the fastening component and molded article, as well as a mold are also disclosed.

    • A hook or loop component of a hook and loop fastener having a textile ground sheet (16) and filamentary pile, the ground sheet (16) penetrated by a resinous binder of improved properties.
