摘要： The present invention relates to compositions and methods for treating diseases associated with dyslipidemia, including hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, steatohepatitis, atherosclerosis, obesity, hyperglycemia, metabolic syndrome, and related aspects of and conditions associated with metabolic syndrome. The compositions and methods disclosed herein are useful for regulating the lipid balance (lipid homeostasis) in a subject. Compositions and methods including a Nuclear Transport Modifier may be administered to a subject to modulate the transport of transcription factors, mediated by nuclear import adaptors, into the nucleus of a cell resulting in a decrease in cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood and liver, a decrease in atherosclerotic lesion size, a decrease in body weight and in hyperglycemia, a reduction of fatty liver inflammation, and an improvement in liver function.

摘要： Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for inhibiting collagen production mediated by the Fused in Sarcoma (FUS) ribonucleoprotein. As disclosed herein, the C terminal domain of FUS contains an uncommon nuclear localization sequence (NLS) motif called PY-NLS that binds the nuclear import receptor transportin. Phosphorylation of FUS leads to its association with transportin and nuclear translocation with consequent increased in collagen production. Therefore, disclosed herein is an isolated peptide having a transportin-binding moiety, which inhibits FUS from binding transportin, linked to a membrane translocating motif. These compositions and methods can be used to inhibit FUS-mediated collagen production, and treat fibrotic disease involving FUS-mediated collagen accumulation in kidneys and other organs displaying fibrotic diseases.

摘要： Compositions, kits and methods for inhibiting growth of a pathogen and treating infection by the pathogen in a subject include administration of a composition that includes an anti-microbial agent and a nuclear transport modifier (NTM). The antimicrobial agent and the NTM are in therapeutically effective amounts for treating the infection. In an embodiment in which the subject suffers from pulmonary bacterial, viral, or fungal diseases, the anti-microbial agent and the NTM are in therapeutically effective amounts for treating pulmonary disease in the subject. In one embodiment, the compositions, kits and methods are used for inhibiting growth of Bacillus anthracis bacteria, treating a B. anthracis infection, and treating pulmonary anthrax disease in a subject. In an embodiment in which the subject suffers from pulmonary anthrax disease, the anti-microbial agent and the NTM are in therapeutically effective amounts for treating pulmonary anthrax disease in the subject.
