摘要： A connector family comprises a central housing (12, 112) having a connector mating face (42) and a board mounting interface (194). Contacts (56, 58; 156, 158) are held in the central housing. An outer shell (14) is shaped to fit over the central housing and to at least partially enclose the board mounting interface. The outer shell has a cable interface (26) configured to be joined to a cable. The contacts, the central housing and the outer shell are used in different first and second configurations depending upon an intended one of first and second applications. In the first application the outer shell is mounted over the central housing to form the first configuration, and in the second application the outer shell is removed to expose the board mounting interface on the central housing to form the second configuration.

At least one of the beam pairs is an initial contact beam pair (104) which extends further from the main body than the other contact beam pairs (108) such that the initial contact beam pair electrically connects to the mating contact before the other contact beam pairs connect to the mating contact.

The cavities are arranged in at least two parallel rows (68 and 70) which are staggered with respect to each other. Each cavity includes a main body (80) and a notch (82, 83) extending from the main body. The notches in each one of the two parallel rows are directed toward the other of the two parallel rows, and each of the notches extends between a pair of adjacent cavities in the other of said two rows.
