摘要： At least one particular method and apparatus provide an enhanced quality low resolution image extracted from a scalable high resolution bit stream in a DCP bit stream. In various implementations, an enhancement layer is used to produce the enhanced low resolution image. The enhancement layer may include, for example, spatial-domain or frequency-domain information to be used to enhance the typical low resolution image extracted from a DCP bit stream. One specific process includes encoding (102, 302) a digital image into an encoded image. The encoded image is capable of being processed to provide a higher resolution decoding of the digital image and to provide a lower resolution decoding of the digital image. The process further includes encoding (112, 326) additional information for enhancing the lower resolution decoding to provide an enhanced lower resolution image. A complimentary signal and decoding process are also provided, as well as structures for performing the processes.

摘要： A low-resolution image extracted from a scalable high-resolution bit stream in a DCP bit stream is provided with enhanced quality. One process includes creating (302, 504) a compressed code-stream for an image such that a higher-resolution compressed bitstream and a lower-resolution compressed bitstream can be extracted before decompression. An enhancement-layer compressed code-stream (enhancement layer) is created (524) for enhancing an image corresponding to the lower-resolution bitstream. A data package is formed (918, 1110, 1306) including the compressed code-stream and at least one of (1) the enhancement layer or (2) a pointer to the enhancement layer. The data package is sent (918, 1112, 1308) for receipt by a device configured to extract the lower-resolution bitstream, and to enhance the image corresponding to the lower-resolution bitstream by using the enhancement layer. A complimentary signal and decoding process are also provided, as well as structures for performing the processes.

摘要： A method and apparatus for controlling the rate of compression in video/image compression environments is provided. The method includes determining a scaling factor that results in a compressed file size as close to a target file size as possible. In determining the scaling factor, tolerance limits of the current file size as compared with a predetermined tolerance is made, and when the tolerance is not met, the current scaling factor is interpolated to generate a new scaling factor, and consideration of a ratio of file sizes is made to determine if a new downsampling factor is needed for the interpolated scaling factor.
