    • An apparatus (20) and method (10) for rendering a tree structure in a GUI depending on a position of a pointing cursor relative to the rendered tree use the cursor position with respect to the tree to control which tree branches to expand/collapse automatically. They reconfigure the tree view for compact presentation without need for explicit expand/collapse operations. A tree view is generated (11). A cursor position relative to the view is determined (14), consisting of first and second position values according to first and second directions. The branch the cursor position is aligned with according to the first direction is automatically selected as active branch (15). Sub-levels of that branch to be expanded are determined (16), depending on the second position value relative to indentations of the sub-levels, and the tree view is automatically updated by expanding the determined sub-levels of the active branch and collapsing other branches (17).

    • In distributed storage networks, access to a certain piece of data content that is stored on a first node A may be tried simultaneously or nearly simultaneously by different nodes B,C.     • The DVD Stream Recording standard defines application pack-ets (AP_PCK) as the logically smallest units created from the input data stream during recording. Usually the conver-sion from a point on the time axis to a corresponding appli-cation packet is realised by using a mapping list available in the navigation data. However, depending on the target time and a Stream Object selected, the match found can vary significantly. A method is proposed that allows editing a recorded stream of application packets with higher precision. The stream comprises at least a first application packet having a first arrival time stamp (APAT) and a subsequent second application packet having a second arrival time stamp (APAT). For editing the recorded stream a discrete time is input that is a start time or an end time and has a value between the first arrival time stamp and the second arrival time stamp. The discrete time is mapped onto the first or the second arrival time stamp, and the recorded stream is edited correspondingly.
