摘要： A method for creating a removable barrier in a microfluidic apparatus is carried out by: (a) providing a microfluidic apparatus having at least a first chamber and a second chamber, each including at least an inlet, wherein the first and second chamber are separated from one another by a plurality of barrier elements, the plurality of barrier elements defining a barrier zone, (b) introducing a liquid sample into the apparatus through the inlet of the first or second chamber to create a retained continuous liquid phase in one chamber, a continuous gas phase in the other chamber, and a gas/liquid interface between the first and second chamber at the barrier zone, (c) releasing the interface from the barrier elements, and (d) advancing the liquid phase past the barrier zone into the gas chamber displacing the gas phase. In some embodiments the barrier elements are hydrophobic (for example, the barrier elements comprise a hydrophobic polymer. Devices such as chemotaxis devices incorporating such methods are also described.

摘要： Selecting and propagating a cell colony of interest from among a plurality of cell colonies carried on a common substrate in culture is carried out by: (a) selecting a cell colony of interest from among the plurality of cell colonies; (b) isolating a cell subset from the cell colony of interest; (c) analyzing (for example, by a destructive analysis) the cell subset isolated from the cell colony of interest to confirm the presence or absence of a desired feature therein; and then (d) propagating the cell colony of interest when the desired feature is present in the cell subset. A micropallet apparatus may include: (a) a substrate; (b) a plurality of discrete arrays formed on the substrate, each of the arrays comprising a plurality of releasable pallets, and (c) a plurality of gap forming regions, wherein the gap forming regions surround the pallets and separate the pallets from one another.

摘要： The present invention relates to improving the efficiency of man-made and/or natural organic-based animal manure fertilizers by administration of formulations containing poly(organic acids), [P(OA)]s, and/or their salts dispersed in a Non-aqueous Organic Solvent Delivery System (NOSDS). Utilizing a NOSDS allows for coating all components in a fertilizer formulation including but not limited to Urea, Manure, mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP), di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), solid micronutrients such as lime, zinc chloride, etc.) with a layer of [P(OA)]s and/or their salts that liberates, in a plant available form, the micronutrient metals and macronutrients, that are bound as insoluble salts and complexes in the soil. The carboxylic groups of a [P(OA)] that can exist within the [P(OA)] as carboxylic acids, carboxylic anhydrides and/or carboxylic imides, dispersed within the NOSDS, can be neutralized with one or more metals in the form of elemental metals, metal oxides, metal hydroxides, metal alkylates and metal carbonates and/or nitrogen containing compounds such as ammonia, ammonium hydroxide or organoamines to form a stable dispersion that can contain completely complexed micronutrients and provide the vehicle for the delivery of these nutrients to soils and/or as a coating to the surfaces fertilizer granules and seeds.

摘要： Increasing l ongevity of the nitrogen content of soil through improved liquid delivery formulations of urease inhibitors and/or nitrification inhibitors designed to apply to fertilizers, especially urea and manure based fertilizers. These delivery formulations provide an environmentally sound and inherently safe solvating system that improves the storage stability of the urease inhibitors by utilizing aprotic solvents, maintain the urease inhibitors and/or nitrification inhibitors in solution to storage temperatures of at least 10 °C and provides improved application to fertilizer of urease aud/or nitrification inhibitors. These delivery formulations enable safe storage, transport and subsequent application or blending with urea based or manure based fertilizers that can be applied to soil in either a liquid or granular form to provide improved nitrogen retention in the soil for uptake for plant life.

The olefin hydration catalyst can be prepared by contacting a niobium containing compound with a strong Bronsted acid, such as sulfuric or phosphoric acid, to produce niobium oxo sulfate or niobium oxo phosphate nanoparticles. The nanoparticles can be separated, dried and utilized in a reactor for the hydration of olefins to their corresponding alcohols.

摘要： The invention is directed to a catalyst for the production of linear low density polyethylene. The catalyst is obtained by an one pot process comprising the steps (1) reacting a support with a compound having the formula RMgX or MgR 1 R 2 , wherein R, R 1 and R 2 are selected from the group consisting of alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or alkaryl, and X is selected from the group consisting of halogen, OR 3 or OC(O)R 4 wherein R 3 and R 4 are alkyl groups containing 2-50 carbon atoms (2) reacting the magnesium treated support with a compound which is able to react with unreacted magnesium units and (3) reacting the product obtained in step (2) with a compound containing a group IV transition metal component wherein the titanium loading of the catalyst ranges between 1.2 % by weight and 6.0 % by weight relative to the total weight of the catalyst.
