    • A method for a data transmission with ARQ protocol using multicast groups such as GSM, GPRS or UMTS in a mobile communication system is described. Data is transmitted in data blocks (PDU) from a transmitter (T) to a plurality of receivers (R1-RM), said data blocks (PDU) being identifiable by an identification (e.g. a sequence number). The receivers (R1-RM) send status indications to the transmitter (T) whether a data block (PDU) is correctly received. The transmitter (T) is adapted to perform retransmissions according to the status indications and has a transmission window comprising the transmission status for the data blocks (PDU) according to their identification. In the method, a synchronization to the transmitter (T) is performed for at least one first of said receivers (Ri), wherein a range of identifications of transmitted data block (PDU) is selected in said synchronization. The transmitter (T) deletes the transmission status for the selected range of identifications from the transmitter window and the first receiver (Ri) stops sending status indications for the data blocks (PDU) corresponding to the selected range of identifications. In addition, a transmitter and a computer program implementing the method are described. As an example the transmitter can be a RNC extending the RLC and MAC-HSPDA protocols standardized by 3GPP for obtaining efficient and reliable point-to-multipoint radio links.

    • A technique for controlling a wireless broadcast transmission of media data via multiple transmitter sites (102) into a broadcast area (100) with different inter-site distances (106) is proposed. The broadcast area comprises a region (104) of large inter-site distance (ISD) and a region (108) of small inter-site distance. The technique provides for a high spectral efficiency in regions of small ISD and at the same time for an acceptable reception quality in regions of large ISD. A first transmission is initiated into the broadcast area, wherein the first transmission is adapted for reception in a first of the regions. A second transmission is initiated into a second of the regions, the second transmission being adapted for reception in the second region.

    • Inter-cell handover (or cell reselection) in order to provide load balancing in wireless networks, in particular in hierarchical (overlay) networks, wherein the mobile stations in the cells are associated to different multicast groups. A technique for assigning one or more members of a multicast group to cells of radio network is described. This technique includes determining among multicast group members in a first cell one or more first group members having the highest resource demand in this cell. Next, for each cell of a cell cluster and in relation to a second group member having the highest resource demand in the considered cell, the relative resource consumption increase if the one or more first group members were assigned to said considered cell is determined. This determination is also carried out for the first cell but disregarding the one or more first group members having the highest resource demand. These one or more first members are then assigned to the cell that is associated with a minimum compensated relative resource consumption increase or a minimum compensated relative resource increase. In one embodiment, the cells are hierarchically structured and the assigent of member of the multicast group cells is allowed to be carried out on different hierarchy layers.

    • A base station node (BS) of a heterogeneous radio access network comprises a terminal locator (34) and a scheduler (36). The terminal locator (34) obtains an indication of location of a wireless terminal (30) in a cell served by the base station (BS), e.g., whether the wireless terminal (30) is in a center region (M) or an edge region (E) for the cell served by the base station node (BS). The scheduler (36) uses the indication of location to assign to the wireless terminal (30) a frequency of a frequency bandwidth usable by the heterogeneous radio access network. The scheduler (36) assigns a frequency from a partitioned portion of the frequency bandwidth if the cell served by the base station node is a micro cell (28) and the wireless terminal is in an edge region of a micro cell (28). The scheduler (36) also assigns a frequency of the frequency bandwidth if the cell served by the base station node is a micro cell (28) and the wireless terminal is in a center portion of the micro cell (28).
