    • The application relates to cell reselection, in particular for UTRAN and E-UTRA networks. The user terminal is configured to measure characteristics of radio channel of currently serving cell and neighbouring cells that are necessary for cell reselection. Typically such characteristics are measures relating to a signal strength and/or signal quality, such as CPICH RSCP, CPICH Ec/No in UTRAN, RSRP, and RSRQ in E-UTRA. However, utilization of either measure indicating signal strength or a measure indicating signal quality as a characteristic of a radio signal may cause serious problems, since e.g. in UTRAN the CPICH RSCP gives information on the coupling loss, but does not say anything on the interference. This problem is solved by configuring the mobile terminal to measure a value indicating signal strength and a value indicating signal quality as characteristics of a radio channel, i.e. the determination of a cell to be reselected is carried out by measuring values indicating signal strengths and values indicating signal quality.

    • A cellular radio communications network includes a core network with a core network node coupled to a radio access network (RAN) associated with a first radio access technology for communicating with mobile radio terminals. The RAN includes multiple RAN nodes. Each mobile radio terminal has an associated access class for accessing service from the cellular radio communications network. The core network node detects an overload condition and sends an overload message to the RAN nodes that includes information for reducing the overload condition. Each of the RAN nodes receives the overload message and determines whether an access class restriction should be implemented to reduce the number of mobile radio terminals permitted to access the cellular radio communications network. If so, the RAN node determines one or more access classes of mobile radio terminals to be restricted based on the information in the overload message. Information relating to the one or more restricted access classes is transmitted in an area associated with the RAN node so that the mobile terminals of a restricted access class are prohibited from accessing the cellular radio communications network.

    • In a method of sharing a Radio Access Network, RAN, in one or more areas by at least two operators the determination whether to grant admission or not of a User Equipment, UE, to the RAN is performed in an admission control algorithm.     • The invention relates to a method of sharing a mobile telecommunication network with restricted cell access in non-shared cells and such a telecommunication system. The intended use of the invention is to make it technically feasible to differentiate radio coverage between partners sharing a common third generation, e.g. WCDMA, network in areas where expanded coverage results in non-shared cells. The present invention proposes to use the cell access classes. A unique subset of the first ten access classes is allocated to each sharing partner. Each operator then assigns the given set of access classes among its subscribers. In areas (3A, 3B) where only subscribers of one of the sharing partners should have access to the radio network, the cell's access restriction is set to only allow customers from one of the uniquely assigned sets of access classes, i.e. the ones corresponding to the sharing partner.
