    • The invention relates to a method of installing an underwater riser. According to the method, an installation is anchored to the seabed; a tubular pipe intended to be coupled to the said installation and to be equipped with a submersible float is provided; the said float and the said pipe are then submerged, while the said float and the said pipe are held from a surface vessel; a cable is supplied and return means are installed on the said seabed installation so that the said cable can be connected to the said pipe; according to the invention, a submerged hauling buoy is attached to the said hauling cable; ballast is then removed from the float in order to compensate for the tensile forces corresponding to the weight of the said float and of the said pipe and to some of the load applied to the cable; and finally, the said hauling buoy is anchored to the said installation and the float is gradually released.
