    • The present invention provides a method for obtaining a low molecular black liquor fraction comprising the following steps:a) separating black liquor into two fractions by using separation means with a cut off of approximately 100 kDa or smaller, or by adding a salt preferably a calcium salt, enabling coagulation; andb) recovering the low molecular fraction. The present invention also providesa method comprising a further step: recovery of the high molecular fraction which is useful as a fuel source which easily may be transported away from the site and used in another site. The present invention also provides a low molecular black liquor fraction obtainable by the above method. The present invention also provides a composition for enhancing the production of chemical pulp based on alkaline processes, e.g. sulfate pulping including polysulfide pulping, soda-aq pulping, soda pulping and alkaline sulfite processes comprising a substance/substances of carbohydratic origin or a low molecular black liquor fraction. The present invention also provides a method for enhancing the production of chemical pulp based on alkaline pulping processes, e.g. sulfate pulping including polysulfide pulping, soda-aq pulping, soda pulping and alkaline sulfite processes comprising adding a composition or a low molecular black liquor fraction. The present invention also provides use of a composition or a low molecular black liquor fraction in alkaline pulping processes, e.g. sulfate pulping including polysulfide pulping, soda-aq pulping, soda pulping and alkaline sulfite processes.

    • In a process of treating wood chips for reduction of the concentration of undesirable inorganic elements prior to cooking in a production line for chemical pulp, the wood chips, having entrapped air, are treated with an aqueous leaching liquor at elevated temperature and pressure, followed by draining at atmospheric pressure or below atmospheric pressure, the pressures being controlled to yield a moisture content in the wood chips as low as possible for adequate leaching result and behavior of the chips in a subsequent digester. The aqueous leaching liquor is e.g. pulp mill process water with a low content of undesirable inorganic components, such as bleach plant spent liquor or condensate. The aqueous leaching liquor drained from the treated wood chips may be purified and recycled back to the process.

    • The present invention provides, according to a first aspect, a method for treatment of wood chips from soft or hard wood or a mixture thereof for the reduction of non-process elements and/or organic process disturbing substances in a mechanical pulping process or a chemimechanical pulping process comprising the following steps: a) introduction of cracks in the chips or refining the chips to a coarse fibre structure, in order to considerably shorten the diffusion ways within the wood material; b) treatment of the chips with an acidic leaching liquid; c) extensive removal of the acidic leaching liquid; and d) adjustment of the pH to a level suitable for refining, preferably pH 4. The present invention also provides, according to a second aspect, a system for using the method according to the first aspect.
