摘要： The present invention is directed to a fuel cell supply for a fuel cell having an outer casing, a liner member containing methanol, and a valve component comprising a valve body member and a slidable body member disposed inside the valve body member. The slidable body member is normally biased toward a valve seat surface to seal the valve component and the slidable body member can be moved away from the valve seat surface to open the valve component. The liner member, the valve body member and the slidable body member are made from at least two different materials and wherein at least one of the members compatible with methanol. Hence, each component can be selected from material(s) that is substantially optimal for its function in the fuel supply.

摘要： A versatile fuel cartridge for storing methanol and water, methanol/water mixture or methanol/water mixtures of varying concentrations is disclosed. The present invention utilizes a filler insert preferably occupying a small portion of the volume of the fuel cartridge, so that the fuel cartridge may hold more fuel to ensure a long life of the fuel cartridge. The filler insert is capable of wicking and transporting the fuel to the MEA. Additionally, the filler insert remains in physical contact with the fuel in any orientation of the fuel cartridge and at any fuel level in the fuel cartridge. The fuel cartridge may have more than one chamber, and preferably each chamber contains a different concentration of fuel. Optionally, the fuel cartridge may also include a pump to initiate fuel flow from the fuel reservoir. The pump may also regulate the flow of fuel and importantly to shut off the flow of fuel, when necessary.

One fuel cartridge includes an outer casing, an inner liner containing fuel, and a valve component adapted to transport fuel from the fuel supply to a fuel cell. The outer casing and the inner liner are made by flow molding and as the fuel is transported from the fuel supply, the inner liner pulls away from the outer casing. Another fuel cartridge includes an outer casing, an inner liner containing fuel, and a valve component adapted to transport fuel from the fuel supply to a fuel cell. The inner liner is integral to the outer casing at a region proximate to the location of the valve component.

摘要： A gas-generating apparatus (12) includes a fuel introducing system that has a fuel transporting system that is pressure regulated and indexed. A reaction chamber (18) having a fluid fuel component (22) and an indexing mechanism (24) operatively connected to a solid fuel component are provided. The solid fuel component of the present invention is introduced into the fluid fuel component within the reaction chamber. Further, the indexing mechanism includes a ratcheting mechanism that may be in direct contact with the fluid fuel component. Alternatively, the reaction chamber may be contained within a pod which also contains the reservoir containing the fluid fuel component, a plurality of which are provided. The indexing mechanism advances the pods sequentially so that the fuel components may be introduced. Other indexing mechanisms are provided. A secondary fuel cell (14') may be provided to extract excess production from the reaction chamber.
