    • A method of identifying biological or chemical target. A tagged complex is formed between a target and one or more ionizable tags. The identity of the ionizable tags corresponds to the identity of the target. At least one tag is optionally cleaved off the tagged complex, thereby forming a cleaved tag. A tag-target complex or at least one cleaved tag is directed into an ion mobility detection device to obtain a mobility-based signature of the cleaved tag. The mobility-based signature correlates with the tag. A method for detecting the binding of a probe to a target. At least one probe is combined with a sample that includes a chemical or a biological target under conditions and for a time sufficient to permit binding of at least one probe to a target, thereby forming a probe-target complex. Optionally, the probe-target complex is separating from unbound probes and targets. The probe-target complex is directed into an ion mobility detection device, to obtain a mobility-based signature of th probe-target complex. The mobility-based signature correlates with the probe-target complex.
