    • Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Ermitteln von Verkehrsinformationen in einem Straßennetz (S) sowie ein Verkehrsinformationssystem zur Durchführung des Verfahrens. Das Straßennetz (S) ist wenigstens teilweise durch ein zelluläres Funknetz (F) mit einer Vielzahl an Funkzellen (n-1, n, n+1) abgedeckt. In Fahrzeugen (F i ) mitgeführte Funkgeräte (G i ) tauschen Funksignale über einen Funkkanal mit einer der jeweils aktuell von einem Fahrzeug (F i ) befahrenen Funkzelle (n-1, n, n+1) zugeordneten Funkbasisstation (B n-1 , B n , B n+1 ) aus. Aus den Funksignalen eines in einem Fahrzeug (F i ) mitgeführten Funkgeräts (G i ) werden Bewegungsdaten dieses Fahrzeugs (F1) gewonnen. Aus gewonnenen Bewegungsdaten einer Vielzahl an Fahrzeugen (F i ) werden die Verkehrsinformationen ermittelt. Erfindungsgemäß wird eine Stichprobenflotte von Fahrzeugen (F i ) gebildet, in welchen ein Funkmodul (10) mitgeführt wird, das Funksignale von einem ebenfalls im Fahrzeug (F i ) mitgeführten Funkgerät (G i ) empfängt. Der vom Funkgerät (G i ) benutzte Funkkanal wird durch das Funkmodul (10) überwacht, wodurch ein Wechsel der vom Fahrzeug (F i ) befahrenen Funkzelle (n-1, n, n+1) erkannt wird. Als Bewegungsdaten (H 1 n-1,n , H 1 n,n+1 ) eines Fahrzeugs (F i ) werden dessen vollzogene Funkzellenwechsel erhoben. Hierdurch kann ein bestehendes zelluläres Funknetz zu Verkehrsinformationszwecken genutzt werden, ohne in die Infrastruktureinrichtungen des Funknetzes einzugreifen.
