    • The aim of the invention is to improve the performance of physical channels in telecommunications systems with cordless telecommunications between mobile and/or stationary transmitting/receiving devices in accordance with the channel data transmission rate, the system environment, the system usage and the distance between the transmitting/receiving devices. The performance of said physical channels is to be improved in such a way that no circuit modifications need to be made to the transmitters and/or the receivers in the transmitting/receiving devices. The number of NPILOT bits, NTPC-bits and NTFCI bits can be adapted or optimised, especially during an active or passive telecommunications connection between the mobile and/or stationary transmitting/receiving devices of the telecommunications system, by means of control elements, for example by appropriate "layer 2/3" signalling, for example via the DPDCH channel.
