    • A choke for internal combustion engines, in particular in motor vehicles, has a choke valve (15) rotationally fixed on a choke valve shaft (16) swivellingly mounted in a choke housing (11), a regulating member (21) actuated by the gas pedal (10) which rotates the choke valve shaft (16) by means of a first stop (31), and an idle position regulating motor (13) which also rotates the choke valve shaft (16) by means of a second stop (32). In order to provide a modular idle position regulator (13) that may be combined with any type of choke housing (11), as desired by the clients, the idle position regulator (13) is housed in a regulator housing (12) separate from and flange-mounted on the choke housing (11). The second stop (32) acts upon a regulator shaft (35) mounted in the regulator housing (12). A clutch (38) mounted between the choke valve shaft (16) and the regulator shaft (35) is automatically engaged when the regulator housing (12) is flange-mounted.
