    • A metered dose dispenser includes a container (2) for a fluid to be dispensed. The container (2) has an outlet opening (4) for passage of the fluid from the container (2) into a metered dose chamber (6). The metered dose chamber (6) is formed, at least in part of a collapsible tubular wall section (8). A first one-way valve (5) is located between the container (2) and the metered dose chamber (6). A helical spring (16) is formed monolithically with the collapsible tubular wall (8), so that it is returned to the expanded condition after it is collapsed. The container (2), the metered dose chamber (6) and any associated parts are all formed of a recyclable plastics material free of any metal part.

    • A one-way valve (112) for dispensing a fluid material from a container includes an axially extending valve body (114) and an elastomeric sleeve (128) stretched over the valve body in tightly fitting contact with it. A ring shaped enlargement (130) is formed monolithically on each end of the sleeve (128) and fits in sealed contact with reduced diameter portions (132) at the opposite ends of the valve body (114). The sleeve (128) can be assembled on the valve body (114) in a variety of ways including mechanically expanding the sleeve (128) and placing it on the valve body (114). The enlargements (130) at the ends of the valve sleeve (128) have a thickness dimension in the radial direction in the range of 2 to 4 times the thickness of the sleeve (128) between the enlargements (130).

    • A dual chamber dispenser is formed of a first chamber (4) and a second chamber (6) connected together by a one-way valve (10) with the first chamber (4) holding a flowable first component to be mixed at a time of use with a second component in the second chamber (6). The one-way valve (10) permits flow from the first chamber (4) into the second chamber (6) but prevents any backflow from the second chamber (6) to the first chamber (4). A metered dose outlet chamber (14) is connected to the second chamber (6) by way of another one-way valve (12), so that the mixed components can be directed into the outlet chamber (14) but prevented from backflow into the second chamber (6). A dispensing head (2) is connected to the outlet chamber (12) for collapsing the outlet chamber (12) and dispensing selected amounts of the mixed components. With the components in the first (4) and second (6) chambers kept in a separated condition the dispenser has a long shelf life though the mixed components have only a relatively short period of use after the mixing has been effected.

    • A system for dispensing a flowable substance includes a closed source member (1, 10) for holding the substance. A passageway (2, 2A) connects the source member with a dispensing chamber (14) with a first one-way valve (3) located within the passageway to prevent backflow into the source member. The dispensing chamber is arranged to dispense selected amounts of the flowable material through a dispensing head (6). The dispensing head contains a second one-way valve (5) connected to the dispensing chamber with passageways (8) extending from the second one-way valve to outlet openings (7) from the dispensing head. Alternatively, a passageway (112) can connect the source member directly with the second one-way valve (115) and the dispensing head (116). A peristaltic device (120A, 120B) acts on the passageway pressing the flowable substance out through the second one-way valve and the dispensing head.
