In one implementation, an illumination system includes a plurality of light sources (631, 633, 635, 637) configured to emit light into a light panel (610) and a plurality of light turning features (690) disposed on the light panel configured to turn, light out of the light panel. The light sources can be configured to emit different colors of light than one another and the light turning features can be arranged such that a first light turning feature turns more light having a first color than any other color of light and such that a second light turning feature turns more light having a second color than any other color of light. In another implementation, a method of manufacturing an illumination system includes providing a light panel and positioning a luminance altering element on the light panel such that a luminance characteristic of the panel changes.

摘要： An interferometric modulator ("IMOD") display utilizes ambient light and incorporates touch sensing without reducing the amount of ambient light that reaches the MEMS modulators, and without introducing any optical distortion or loss of performance. Electrodes for touch sensing are located at a back glass of the inteferometric display, and are used in conjunction with electrodes whose primary function is to activate the pixels of the MEMS display, in order to sense a touch. The touch deflects the IMOD layers and is sensed through the various display layers at the rear of the display.

摘要： Disclosed are apparatus and methods for fabricating a static interferometric display device. A plurality of sputtering modules is used to form static interferometric elements on a substrate. These elements each have a plurality of interferometric sub-elements that each has an interferometric stack. A first sub-element of each element is formed so that an interferometric modulation of light due to the first element's stack transmits at a first color, and a second sub-element of each element is formed so that a second color is transmitted. The sub-elements of each element are arranged with respect to each other so that all of the elements appear as a third color to a user if all the sub-elements of each element are left unmasked. A printing system is then used to mask one or more sub-elements of one or more elements so as to form, with the elements, a static image having multiple colors.
