摘要： Techniques for performing cell reselection in a wireless communication system are described. A user equipment (UE) may initially camp on a first cell. While camped on the first cell, the UE may identify second and third cells deemed to be better than the first cell. The UE may move from the first cell to the second cell without performing cell reselection to camp on the second cell. After moving to the second cell, the UE may obtain at least one cell reselection parameter for the second and/or third cell and may update the rankings of the second and third cells based on the cell reselection parameter(s). The UE may then perform cell reselection from the first cell to the second or third cell based on the updated rankings, e.g., perform inter-frequency cell reselection from the first cell to the third cell without actually camping on the second cell.

摘要： A scheme is provided for indexing and storing radio bearer configurations for a UMTS wireless communication network, such as a UTRAN. A radio network controller maintains a list of radio bearer configurations and an identifier for each configuration. One or more of these configurations and their identifiers are sent to a mobile terminal in the network. The mobile terminal stores these configurations and identifiers for future reference. This enables an on-the-fly configuration scheme in which the network controller can reference a particular stored configuration by its identifier to cause the mobile terminal to use that configuration to setup wireless transmitter and/or receiver. The identifiers may have contiguous values so that the network controller can transmit a range (e.g., starting identifier and ending identifier) to the mobile terminal rather than each identifier. When a configuration is modified or removed, the network controller may reassign identifiers to maintain contiguous values.

A user equipment (UE) may have (i) a first DRX cycle used by a first network (e.g., a core network) to page the UE and (ii) a second DRX cycle used by a second network (e.g., a RAN) to page the UE. In an aspect, the UE may use the longer DRX cycle and ignore the shorter DRX cycle, when allowed, to extend battery life. In one design, the UE may receive an indication of whether the second DRX cycle can be ignored or is to be considered by the UE. The UE may use the longer DRX cycle if the second DRX cycle can be ignored and may receive paging from the first network and/or the second network based on the longer DRX cycle. In another aspect, the UE may negotiate a DRX cycle with a network.

The lists can be communicated according to a timer, as new lists (or updates thereto) are generated or obtained, and/or the like. In this regard, devices can receive frequency priority lists before connection to an access point is released or lost. Upon connection release or link failure, devices can use the frequency priority list to monitor frequencies for receiving paging signals. In addition, the frequency priority lists can include layer types corresponding to the frequencies that specify types of access points related to the frequencies. Certain frequencies can be avoided or monitored for paging signals according to the layer types.

A new access stratum (AS) key can be provided to a serving access point (and a related wireless device) before and/or while preparing a target access point during an inter-cell handover. The serving access point can receive the new AS key and provide it to the target access point as part of handover preparation. The serving access point can then initiate inter-cell handover of the related wireless device indicating that the wireless device can utilize a new AS key before the serving access point has an opportunity to activate the new AS key with the wireless device. The wireless device can subsequently perform a random access procedure to the target access point and/or establish a connection therewith by transmitting other messages using the new AS key.

摘要： Techniques for transmitting and receiving data in an efficient manner to potentially improve capacity for a wireless network and achieve power savings for a wireless device are described. The techniques utilize a Continuous Packet Connectivity (CPC) mode comprised of multiple (e.g., two) discontinuous transmission (DTX) modes and at least one (e.g., one) discontinuous reception (DRX) mode. Each DTX mode is associated with different enabled uplink subframes usable for transmission from the wireless device to the network. Each DRX mode is associated with different enabled downlink subframes usable by the network for transmission to the wireless device. The wireless device may send signaling and/or data on the enabled uplink subframes and may receive signaling and/or data on the enabled downlink subframes. The wireless device may power down during non-enabled subframes to conserve battery power. Mechanisms to quickly transition between the DTX and DRX modes are described.
