    • An energy recovery circuit for a plasma display panel (PDP) according to the present invention includes an energy recovery unit recovering and storing energy from the PDP; and a switching stabilizing unit electrically connected to the energy recovery unit to stabilize switching of a sustain discharge pulse applied to the PDP. The switching stabilization unit may include one diode, two switches and one capacitor for energy recovery, or include two switches and an external input voltage source that is an external voltage supply. According to the present invention, the difference of voltages applied to both drain and source terminals of a switch SW2 for applying a sustain discharge voltage Vsus is minimized at the time when the switch SW2 is switched, so that switching can be stabilized by preventing hard switching from being generated when the sustain discharge voltage is applied to a panel. Further, switching and electro-magnetic interference (EMI) noises of the circuit, generated due to the hard switching can be decreased, and therefore, driving reliability of the circuit can be improved.

The PDP includes a first electrode applying a ramp-up voltage, a ramp-down voltage, a scan pulse voltage and a sustain discharge voltage; a second electrode applying a ground voltage GND and a level voltage of a second electrode; and a third electrode applying a data voltage for selecting discharge cells in an address period. In the driving method using a driving waveform divided into a reset period, an address period and a sustain period, positive and negative sustain discharge voltages are alternately applied to the first electrode and the ground voltage GND is applied to the second electrode in the sustain period.

    • Disclosed is a driving circuit for a front electrode of a plasma display panel (PDP), which can simplify the configuration of a circuit controlling a ramp output voltage and a square output voltage. The driving circuit for a front electrode of a PDP includes a control signal input unit, a ramp ON signal input unit, a ramp output control circuit, a square ON signal input unit and a ramp-square switching element. The control signal input unit applies a control signal for allowing the ramp-square switching element to be on/off to the ramp ON signal input unit or square ON signal input unit. The ramp ON signal input unit receives the control signal inputted from the control signal input unit and generates a gate voltage waveform for controlling the ramp-square switching element. The ramp output control circuit includes a capacitor and controls the gate voltage waveform applied to the ramp-square switching element by the ramp ON signal input unit by discharging electric charges charged into the capacitor. The square ON signal input unit receives the control signal inputted from the control signal input unit and generates the gate voltage waveform for controlling the ramp-square switching element. A drain terminal of the ramp-square switching element is connected to input terminals of ramp and square voltages, and a source terminal of the ramp-square switching element is connected to output terminals of the ramp and square voltages.

    • A method for reverse-gamma compensation of a plasma display panel capable of preventing a phenomenon in which a reverse-gamma curve is distorted at an average picture level (APL) by calculating a reverse-gamma value of each APL and applying a subfield mapping table based thereon, thereby improving image quality particularly in a low gray scale region is disclosed. The method for reverse-gamma compensation of a plasma display panel includes: calculating the ratio of the number of the total sustain pulses of a reference APL to the number of the total sustain pulses of a specific APL; calculating the number of sustain pulses of each subfield adjusted by multiplying the calculated ratio by the number of sustain pulses of each subfield of the specific APL; performing subfield mapping on the adjusted number of sustain pulses of each subfield using a subfield mapping comparison value as a comparison value; and tracing a subfield mapping value matched with the subfield mapping value calculated through the subfield mapping on a subfield mapping table, and confirming the actual gray scale of the matched subfield mapping value as the integer part of a compensated reverse-gamma value.
