    • An apparatus is disclosed that can be mounted on an existing winder or drawing bench that filters out defects in metal wires such as steel wires. The apparatus comprises a torque generating coupling in the mechanical force path between a first (206) and second (212) capstan. During use the outer circumferential speed of said second capstan (212) is larger than the outer circumferential speed of said first capstan (206). The torque generating coupling can be situated between the first (or second) axis and the capstan associated with said first (or second capstan), between the first and second capstan, or between the axes of the respective first and second capstans. By using an adjustable magnetic coupling the test force applied on the wire when guided from the first to the second capstan can be adjusted at will. The apparatus can also be implemented as a stand-alone unit that can easily be mounted on a winder or drawing bench. The apparatus can be driven by the wire being pulled from the second capstan.

    • A machine for processing steel wire with a total mass of between 100 kg up to about 7.5 metric tons is described. The machine is built on a frame that is made partly or entirely from steel sheets (102, 112) that are connected to one another by means of slot and tongue connections (104, 114; 106, 116). A bunching machine, a cabling machine and a wet wire drawing machine, a pay-off stand or take-up unit comprising such a machine frame as examples of machines for processing steel wire are described and claimed. The machine frame has the advantage that it is stiff and light, can be easily assembled out of standard steel sheet, is cheap in cost and can be build faster than prior art machine for processing steel wire of which the frame is made by steel casting.

    • A system (10) for winding multiple elongated elements (12, 14) simultaneously under a substantially same tension on a single spool (16) comprises one pendulum arm (18) and one set of actuators (22) acting on the pendulum arm (18) and balancing with the sum of tensions of each elongated element (12, 14).
