    • A hearing aid system utilizes a digital signal processor (50) which includes a filter (301) having filter coefficients that can be varied in order to suppress acoustic feedback between the microphone (30) and the receiver (40). A first technique for processing the signal includes varying the delay (308) of the data over time. A second technique involves adjusting the filter coefficients of digital filter (301) through filter estimator (303) which provides an optimal estimate of the current input sample based on past input samples. The output of the signal is subtracted from the input signal which provides for a difference signal which effectively cancels out resonant frequencies. The third technique involves providing both delayed data and the input data to the filter estimator (310) and filter (309), wherein the signal passed through feedback filter corresponds to the magnitude and phase of the acoustic feedback signal to thereby cancel the same.
