    • Disclosed are passive acoustic structures, portable audio devices configured for use with the passive acoustic structures and methods for enhancing the frequency output of a speaker of a portable device configured for use with a disclosed passive acoustic structure. The disclosed portable audio device may include an opening proximal a speaker cavity of the device, a shutter or door to open and close the opening so that the device interoperates with a docking station of a passive acoustic structure including a labyrinth or a transmission line system that may increase the frequency range of the system. For an end user to experience the music and multimedia features of a portable audio device, and in particular a mobile communication device, the above-described passive acoustic structure may provide a bass enhancement for the typically small loudspeaker of a portable audio device with no additional loudspeaker and therefore no additional circuitry.

    • Disclosed herein are a plurality of displays for an electronic device including a display layer (102, 104), a light guide layer (108), and a damping material layer (110) coupled between the light guide layer and the display layer. The display layer in one embodiment is a liquid crystal display layer, but other types of display layers may be used. The light guide layer may serve as a back light for the display layer, and may be between approximately 0.05 mm and 2 mm in thickness. Devices described herein include at least one interposed layer of acoustic and/or mechanical energy absorbing material, also referred to herein as damping material, between the display layer susceptible to vibration, and a hard layer near the display layer. The damping material as described herein may reduce the audio noise. The energy absorbing layer may take the form of an audio energy absorbing sheet interposed between layers of the display.

    • A system and method for removing time division multiple access (TDMA) noise from an audio signal during a silence interval and not during a non-silence interval. An audio silence interval may be a set of frames which have substantially no audible sound (i.e. no speech or voice are audible). This may be determined by analyzing the decibel level or magnitude of the audio signal. In one embodiment, a voice activity detector determines a silence interval within the audio signal and sends a control signal to enable a TDMA noise filter. The audio signal is continuously passed through the TDMA noise filter. However, the TDMA noise filter only operates/processes the silence intervals of the audio signal as a result of the TDMA noise filter being activated by the voice activity detector.
