摘要： A communication device (10) and a corresponding method are arranged for changing the radiation pattern of an antenna (14), where the radiation pattern of the antenna (14) is set to a half-space pattern if the communication device (10) is in close proximity to an object. A reflector (18) is activated to produce the half space radiation pattern. The reflector (18) is deactivated to produce the full space pattern. A switching device (26) determines the state of the reflector (18). A sensing and control device (23) controls the state of the switching device (26).

摘要： A multi-frequency internal antenna apparatus (10) for a clamshell type electronic device includes a flexible circuit (20) that electrically couples circuitry between the main housing (12) and flip housing (14). A conductive element (36) is disposed on the main housing (12) and tuned to be electrically resonant above the operating frequencies of the electronic device. The conductive element (36) is disposed in proximity to the flip housing (14) in the open position and is electrically coupled at a high impedance point to the flexible circuit (20) and subsequently to the circuitry in the flip housing. When the movable flip housing is in the open position and being held by a user, the circuitry in the movable flip housing forms a secondary conductive element providing dipole characteristics that tunes the combined conductive elements to the operating frequencies of the electronic device.

摘要： An antenna assembly allows for a retractable/extendable antenna to be used in conjunction with a sealed portable communication device (200). An antenna bushing assembly (204) is used in conjunction with a sealed housing (208) having an unsealed compartment (206). The sealed housing (208) includes a radio frequency (RF) connector (210) formed therein. The bushing assembly (204) includes an RF plug (216) for mating with the RF connector (210) of the sealed housing (208). A sleeve (230) extends from the bushing assembly (204) to act as a passageway for water intrusion into the unsealed compartment (206). An antenna (100) can thus retract and extend within the sleeve (230) of the unsealed compartment (206) while the RF connection remains intact due to the interconnect provided between the bushing assembly (204) and the sealed housing (208).
