    • A trim insert for a choke assembly is disclosed, wherein the trim insert is a tubular member with a substantially constant inner diameter. A first end of the device is positioned within an adjacent upstream sleeve and a second end is sealingly retained within the discharge channel of the choke assembly. A flange coaxially retains the tubular member between the sleeve and a shoulder of the choke body. The trim insert is made of an erosion resistant material, such as tungsten carbide, hardened steel, or a ceramic. Additionally, the inner surface of the tubular member may be coated with a hardening compound to provide additional erosion resistance.

    • A replaceable sleeve insert for a choke assembly is disclosed, wherein the replaceable sleeve insert has a tubular member coaxially and sealingly retained within an upper body section of the choke assembly. The tubular member is also sealed against the bonnet. The tubular member has an inner diameter sufficient to accommodate coaxial linear displacement of a shuttle assembly and an outer diameter sufficient to fit within an upper body orifice in the upper body section. At least one attachment member outwardly extends from the tubular 10 member and is retained between the upper body section and the bonnet. The tubular member has an opening in the sleeve wall to provide fluid communication from the choke inlet to the interior of the tubular member. A method of assembling a choke with a replaceable sleeve insert is also described.

    • Apparatus operable in hazardous areas for controlling a choke assembly includes an air source, an air purge system in fluid communication with the air source, a remote operating panel receiving data from a wellbore sensor, a local operating panel in electronic communication with the remote operating panel, and an actuator coupled to the assembly to control pressure within the wellbore The air purge system circulates air through airtight housings included in the remote and local panels. The remote panel includes operator controls and a display. The local panel includes a local operator controller having an operator interface to input operator instructions, receive instructions from the remote panel, and transmit operator instructions. The actuator includes a motor in an explosion-proof housing coupled to the choke plate and operable to adjust the orifice through the choke plate. A position indicator is coupled to the choke plate and can provide feedback.
