    • The invention relates to a control device for setting a breathing gas pressure in the field of diagnosis and/or therapy of sleep-related respiratory disorders. According to the invention, a control device of the following type is provided for appointing a breathing gas desired pressure for the diagnosis and/or therapy of sleep-related respiratory disorders. This control device is comprised of a flow signal generator for generating a breathing gas flow signal that is indicative of the breathing gas flow, of a pressure signal generator for generating a breathing gas pressure signal that is indicative of the breathing gas pressure, and of a signal processing device that generates a specification signal based on the breathing gas flow signal. According to the specification signal, a pressure setting signal, which is relevant for adjusting a breathing gas desired pressure, occurs in accordance with a first pressure determination mode or in accordance with a second pressure determination mode that is different from the first pressure determination mode at least with regard to its time response. This advantageously enables the determination of the most favorable breathing gas pressure characteristic for the current physiological state of the patient without subjecting the patient to considerable disturbing influences in connection with the optimization of the breathing gas pressure.
