    • A filler comprising cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils on which light-scattering ,material particles have been deposited, and a process for the manufacture thereof. In the filler according to the invention, an alkyl derivative of cellulose, such as CMC, has been sorbed to the fibrils. Such a filler can be prepared from a source material containing cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils by first forming a fibril suspension, into which there are fed source materials forming an inorganic or organic salt that, when precipitating, forms a light-scattering pigment. The filler according to the invention has very good strength properties; in particular, good bond strength is achieved by means of it. The concentration of mineral pigment in paper can be increased and furthermore, the grammage of paper can be lowered without the other important properties of the paper deteriorating.

    • The present invention concerns a method of producing a calendered, coated fibrous web, according to which method a fibrous web is coated with a coating colour containing a coating pigment, and the coated fibrous web is calendered. According to the invention, at least 1 % preferably 10 to 100 % of the weight of the pigment comprises calcium oxalate, and calendering the coated web by online calendering. The properties of the calcium oxalate pigment are so advantageous for calendering that it is possible to obtain a reasonably high gloss already with a machine calender (online calendering), which will eliminate need for a separate offline calender in the production line of matt surface papers. The invention further relates to the use of calciumoxalte as a pigment in silkpapers.

    • The present invention relates to a coated fibrous web and a methofor producing it. According to the present invention, a coated fibrous web comprises a filler-containing base web that has a pigment-containing coating layer on at least one surface. The filler of the base web consists at least partially of cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils, on the surface of which light scattering material particles have been deposited. The filler comprises cellulose or lignocellulose fibrils having an average thickness less than 5µm produced from plant fibres by refining and screening. Considerable advantages are achieved with the present invention. With the help of the composite filler, the formation of the fibrous web can be omproved significantly without impairing the retention, which makes it possible to achieve an extremely smooth substrate for the coating. The smoothness of the surface can also be improved. Furthermore, the fines-based carrier fraction of the fillees not penetrate too much into the fibre network. Due to these reasons even a small amount of coating produces good coverage and quality improving cost-efficiency.
