    • The invention relates to a method and device which are used for cryogenic separation of air in a distillation column system for nitrogen-oxygen separation which comprises a high-pressure column (17) and a low-pressure column (18). Feed air (1) is compressed in a main air compressor (3) to a first pressure, which is significantly higher than the operating pressure of the high-pressure column (17). The compressed feed air (8) is introduced into a main heat exchanger (11), where it is cooled against return flows. A first air stream (9) which is formed by some of the compressed feed air (8) is removed (12) from the main heat exchanger (11) at a first intermediate temperature after partial cooling in the main heat exchanger (11) and is re-compressed to a second pressure in a cold compressor (13).
