    • We describe a method or providing a diffractive image display, the method comprising: displaying a diffraction pattern on pixels of a spatial light modulator (SLM), the SLM comprising a plurality of optical phase modulating pixels; and illuminating said SLM with a beam of light to reconstruct a far field image formed by said diffraction pattern; and wherein the method further comprises: providing a hexagonal or diamond shape for said pixels. In embodiments the pixels have a shape parameter S of greater than 0.333 where S is dependent on a pixel pitch in a horizontal direction in a lateral plande of said SLM (DELTAx), a pixel pitch in a vertical direction in a lateral plane of said SLM (DELTAy, a length of deadspace between pixels (DELTAos), and a maximum dimension of a said picel in a lateral plane of said SLM measured in said vertical direction (H).

    • We describe a holographic image projection system for projecting an image at an acute angle onto a surface, the system comprising: a spatial light modulator (SLM) to display a hologram; an illumination system to illuminate said displayed hologram; projection optics to project light from said illuminated displayed hologram onto said surface at an acute angle form said image; and a processor having an input to receive input image data for display and an output to provide hologram data for said SLM, wherein said processor is configured to: input image data and convert this to target image data; generate from said target image data hologram data for display as a hologram on the SLM to reproduce a target image; and wherein said target image is distorted to compensate for said projection of said hologram at an acute angle to form said image.

    • We describe a method of capturing writing or drawing on a whiteboard. The method comprises: inputting camera data for a succession of image frames, wherein the camera data is from a camera directed towards the whiteboard and the image frames comprise successive images of the whiteboard from the camera; and user filter processing data from said image frames to remove parts of said image frames corresponding to parts of a user or user pen writing or drawing on said whiteboard. The user-filter processing comprises filtering to distinguish between motion of the user/user pen parts in the image frames and writing/drawing image information in the image frames which appears or changes during said writing or drawing but which is thereafter substantially unchanging. The method outputs writing/drawing data from the user filter-processing, this defining captured writing or drawing from the whiteboard.
