    • The present invention relates to a cooling member having improved cooling efficiency which is to be mounted above and/or under a battery module or battery pack in order to remove heat generated from battery cells during charging and discharging. The cooling member includes: a thermally conductive medium including terraced coupling plates, the lengths of which are mutually different, wherein a refrigerant passage is defined between the interfaces of the coupling plates; and a refrigerant pipe having a hollow structure through which refrigerant flows, the refrigerant pipe including a main pipe and at least one branch pipe vertically extending when the branch pipe is in communication with the main pipe, so as to communicate with the refrigerant passage of the thermally conductive medium. In one end of the refrigerant passage of the thermally conductive medium, a mounting groove having a shape corresponding to that of an outer surface of the branch pipe is defined in the plate, from among the plurality coupling plates, which has a relatively long length, and an auxiliary plate surrounding the outer surface of the branch pipe is mounted when the branch pipe is mounted on the mounting groove.

    • The present invention relates to a mid- or large-sized battery pack having a structure in which two or more battery modules, including a plurality of chargeable/dischargeable battery cells or unit modules (unit cells), are embedded in the space between a pack case and a base plate. Cooling members including heat-dissipating fins contacting outer surfaces of the unit cells, and refrigerant pipes connected to the lower ends of the heat-dissipating fins, respectively, so as to enable refrigerant to flow therethrough, are arranged at the interfaces among the unit cells. The base plate located at the lower ends of the battery modules forms a refrigerant flow channel corresponding to the refrigerant flow direction of the refrigerant pipes. The pack case is coupled to the base plate when the battery modules are mounted on the base plate. The refrigerant for dissipating heat generated by the unit cells is introduced from one side of the refrigerant flow channel of the base plate, passes through the refrigerant pipes of the cooling members arranged among the unit cells, and is discharged through the other side of the refrigerant flow channel of the base plate.
