摘要： On existing DVD and CD players a control loop is required for the adaptation and timing recovery. For Two-Dimensional Optical Storage such a control loop has drawbacks because PRML detection in the form of a stripe-wise Viterbi detector is used. Such a detector introduces an increasing detection delay when going from the outer rows towards the center of the broad spiral. A feedback loop is arranged to determine an error signal from a first area of the data block where the first area is that area where the error signal can be determined within the shortest period of time. This reduces the duration of the detection step and thus increases the stability of the control loop.

摘要： A communication system includes a communication channel (110) for time- synchronous transfer of data symbols a 1 ,..., a N to a receiver (130). A sampling unit (132) is used for time-sequential sampling the channel under control of a sampling clock signal that is synchronous with transmittal of the data symbols. Each sample includes a representation of a data symbol and noise. A data-aided timing error detector (133) receives a representation of the samples. The detector includes a data-dependent noise predictor (310) for generating a predicted noise sequence ñ 1 ,..., ñ N where each predicted noise value n k for the k-th sample of the sequence depends on a cluster of a plurality of sampled data symbols and a noise whitening unit (320) for whitening of noise in the sample sequence by removing the predicted noise value ñ k . The detector is arranged to provide a signal for correcting the sampling clock signal in dependence on the whitened sample sequence.

摘要： Transferring information via a signal requires synchronization. Thereto the signal has a preamble followed by a synchronization word and a data frame. The synchronization word is for frame synchronization. The preamble has a predefined pattern for bit synchronization. The new synchronization system is based on detecting the synchronization word by a correlator (32) which correlates the signal with a detection word, while the detection word has a length different from the length of the synchronization word. The detection word is dependent on the synchronization word and a final part of the preamble that precedes the synchronization word. The synchronization word may be selected for, in a threshold detector (14), providing a substantial detection distance between a correlation peak and correlation side lobes during said correlating with the extended detection word. A slicer (33) may advantageously be applied for improving the detection at high signal to noise ratios.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method for synchronizing the signals coming from a set of data channels of a two dimensional optical read-out system. Said synchronization method comprises a step of cross-correlating the signals of a pair of adjacent channels for determining a relative phase delay between said adjacent channels. It also comprises a step of iterating the cross-correlation step for the different pair of adjacent channels of the set of data channels. It finally comprises a step of compensating for the relative phase delays thus obtained in order to align the signals from adjacent channels with each other. The present invention is based on, for example, the use of the optical cross talk existing between adjacent channels in a cross correlator that is able to determine the relative phase between two adjacent channels.
