We describe an infant mattress (10) comprising a mattress core (11) having first and second faces (20, 21) each face(20, 21) overlayered by a comfort layer (22, 23) and a cover layer (24, 25); wherein the mattress core (11) comprises a relatively firm core layer (12) and a relatively soft core layer (14). Suitably, the firm core layer comprises an array of helical springs or a foamed polymeric or fibrous material.

摘要： A mattress (100) having two sides of differing softness is disclosed, the softer side being suitable for babies and very young children and the firmer side being suitable for toddlers and older children. The mattress comprises a first spring layer (101) and a second spring layer (102). First spring layer (101) comprises pocketed springs (103) and second spring layer (102) comprises pocketed springs (104). Pocketed springs in the first spring layer have a lower spring constant than those in second spring layer (102), resulting in the first spring layer being softer than the second spring layer. A core layer (105) is located between the two spring layers. The purpose of this layer is to isolate or decouple the two sets of springs from one another in order that they function as individual layers each with a predetermined (and different) firmness. A foam layer (106) is optionally provided around the mattress to increase comfort.
