摘要： The invention includes a thermometer (100) with a backlight and a method for lighting the backlight. The thermometer has a temperature probe section (110) with a temperature sensing element (102), a processor (104) which determines sensed temperature readings of the living being from the signals provided by temperature sensing element. The thermometer also includes a display (106) and a backlight for lighting the display. The backlight is activated upon a command from the processor and the processor determines whether a decrease in the temperature readings exceeds or is equal to a predetermined threshold in order to activate the backlight. The method can include the steps of using the processor to monitor a temperature change indicated by the temperature sensing element. The processor detects a temperature decrease and activates a first color light emitting element (122) to backlight a display if the temperature decrease exceeds or equals a predetermined threshold.

摘要： A temperature therapy pad for use with a person including a thermal unit for making the pad either hot or cold and a therapeutic slot extending from one side of the pad which substantially divides the pad into sections. An elastic member may extend across the slot. The therapy pad can include a strap or an adhesive for attaching the therapy pad to a user's body. The thermal unit can be an electric heating coil and include a controller. The thermal unit may also be a material which has a high specific heat capacity or a material which heats when exposed to oxygen. The thermal unit may also be in the form of two separate chemical substances which change temperature when mixed. Another embodiment is for a temperature therapy pad including a substance which presents a heating or cooling sensation to a user's skin.

摘要： A vaporizer for providing water vapor at a safer and reduced temperature comprises a water tank and steam generating unit. The steam generating unit is an assembly of a multi- walled chamber, top cover portion, and safety grill. The safety grill establishes a distance between a water vapor outlet situated on the top cover portion and the point where an individual may contact the water vapor. This distance allows the temperature of the water vapor to be reduced to a safer temperature. Additionally, the vaporizer includes a condensation recycling port that receives water vapor droplets that form about the steam generating unit and returns those droplets to a boiling chamber where the water droplets are recycled into water vapor. Finally, the top cover portion includes a water barrier to protect electrical components near the water vapor outlet.

摘要： A rectal thermometer for measuring the temperature of a patient including a disk or oval-shaped member having a circumferential edge and first and second sides. Along the edge is a temperature display that is viewable during the temperature taking process without having to first remove the thermometer from the anal canal. The first and second sides form a concave shape and include an actuation switch and battery compartment. Connected to the main housing via a probe guard portion is a controlled-depth temperature sensing probe which can be fully inserted into the anal canal without concern for over-insertion. The probe guard portion, which may be formed of flexible material, is adapted such that its thickness gradually increases proximate the main housing and serves to slow down the entry of the probe within the anal canal. Finally, the rectal thermometer includes a holder having a proximal end for covering the housing and a distal end for covering the probe. The distal end also houses an enclosed portion having rattle balls which allow the thermometer holder to serve as an amusement device for the child.
