摘要： There is provided a novel use for vascular endothelial growth factor, herein designated VEGF-X, and a CUB domain present in the sequence of VEGF-X, which enhance smooth muscle cell proliferation and can be used to treat diseases associated with reduced smooth muscle cell proliferation. VEGF-X, and a CUB domain can also be used in tissue engineering applications to increase the number of smooth muscle cells within specific tissue to restore that tissue function or architecture. Screening methods for identifying inhibitors of VEGF-X biological activity are also disclosed and these inhibitors include neutralizing VEGF-X antibodies, antisense VEGF-X sequences or non-protein antagonists competing with VEGF-X biological activity. Also provided are therapeutic methods for treating disorders associated with smooth muscle cells hyperproliferation and methods of diagnosis a pathological condition or susceptibility to a pathological condition associated with smooth muscle cell hyperproliferation.

摘要： An inductive sensor is operable for detecting a relative position of, or movement between, a member and at least one inductor. An electrical parameter associated with the inductor is caused to change as a result of a change of inductive coupling in response to a change in relative position of the inductor and the member. The sensor further comprises means for setting a datum value of the electrical parameter. The setting means comprises a component that is moveable so as to adjust the inductive coupling while the member is in a datum position.

摘要： Method and apparatus for use by mobile communication devices for communicating short messages of the emergency type via wireless communication networks. A user input request for communicating a short message is received through a user interface of the mobile device. If the user input request is for an emergency message, a second message center address is read from the memory and provided in a message center address field of the short message. The network identifies the second message center address in the message center address field and, in response, causes the short message to be sent to the emergency message center which is local to the network. This way, when the mobile device is visiting a non-home wireless network, the short message is routed to the appropriate local emergency message center.

摘要： In one illustrative example, when a message forwarding function is enabled for a mobile communication device which operates in a wireless communication network, an address (e.g. an MSISDN) of the mobile device is assigned to “virtual mobile equipment” in the wireless network. The equipment registers with the wireless network with respect to the address, and stores an association in memory between the address and an alternate address of an alternate communication device. Subsequently, the equipment receives a short message having a destination address that matches the address. In response, the equipment forwards the short message to the alternate address for delivery to the alternate device (e.g. a mobile or server) based on the stored association. When the message forwarding function is disabled for and/or by the mobile device, the address of the mobile device is deassigned from the equipment, so that the mobile device is again able to receive short messages having destination addresses that match the address.
