摘要： An LED assembly including an array of LEDs and lens disposed adjacent light emitting surfaces of the LEDs. The area of a cross-section of the lens projected onto the light emitting surface of the LED is substantially equal to or less than the area of the LED's light emitting surface. At least one lens is associated with each LED and the area of a cross-section of each lens projected onto the light emitting surface of its associated LED is substantially equal to or less than the surface area thereof. A phosphor may be included to absorb at least a portion of the light emitted from the LED to emit light at a second wavelength which may be combined with the light from the LED. Lithography may be used to fabricate the lens array in the same process flow used to generate the LED.

摘要： A photo-luminescence liquid crystal (LCD) display comprises: a display panel and a radiation source for generating excitation radiation for operating the display. The display panel comprises transparent front and back plates; a liquid crystal disposed between the front and back plates; a matrix of electrodes (array of thin film transistors TFTs) defining red, green and blue pixel areas of the display and operable to selectively induce an electric field across the liquid crystal in the pixel areas for controlling transmission of light through the pixel areas. A red phosphor material which emits red (R) light in response to excitation radiation is provided on the back plate corresponding to red pixel areas and green phosphor material which emits green light in response to excitation radiation is proved on the back plate corresponding to green pixel areas.

摘要： The present embodiments are directed to photovoltaic devices that convert sunlight into electrical energy. More specifically, the present embodiments include a phosphor-cotnaining, wavelength-converting material for shifting higher energy light to a lower energy form, the latter beng more suitable for the typical solar cell to convert to electricity. The absorption of the phosphor may range from about 280 to 460 nm. Advantageously, the phosphor component of the wavelength converter may be in the form of nano-particles embedded in a transparent matrix for reducing scattering losses.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a luminescent waveguide device, and methods of making thereof, that may be used to convert solar energy into electricity. In particular, the present invention relates to extracting and waveguiding luminescence generated in a scattering medium so as to improve luminescent concentrator performance. By stacking one or a pair of transparent plates of refractive index slightly smaller than that of luminescent plate but still larger than that of air, a much greater fraction of re-emitted light by the embedded luminescent particles can be extracted so that the detrimental effect of particle scattering can be minimized. Additionally, by additionally using a high-efficiency diffractive optic component in the structure to redirect the re-emitted photons with angles falling into the escape zone to much larger angles so these otherwise outgoing photons can be waveguided by total internal reflection. These improvements minimize the critical-angle loss and increase the output light intensity at the ends of the waveguide.
