    • A multicarrier receiver determines the length of a cycle prefix. The multicarrier receiver contains a cyclic prefix detector. The cyclic-prefix detector includes a matched filter to apply first reference data corresponding to a portion of a first training symbol to the sampled received multicarrier communication signal to generate a first detection output. A second reference data corresponding to a portion of a second training symbol is then applied to the sampled received multicarrier communication signal to generate second detection output. The cyclic prefix detector determines the length of a cyclic prefix by performing a modulo operation (eg. modulo by 64) on a number of time-domain samples from first detection output to second detection output. If the longest possible prefix is 64 samples long and the result of the modulo operation by 64 (i.e. the remainder when the number of samples between the two peaks is divided by 64) is zero, then the prefix is 64 samples long. If the result is 32, then the prefix is 32 samples long etc. The cyclic prefix detection circuitry verifies that the time instance of the second detection output is within a predetermined valid range prior to performance of the modulo operation to determine the length of the cyclic prefix. Cyclic-prefix detector may also generate frame-boundary and timing information.
