    • Apparatus for transferring articles such as glass containers from a first conveyor (11), on which the containers are travelling generally horizontally in line one after another, on to a second conveyor (5) extending generally at right angles to the first conveyor from one side of the first conveyor. The apparatus is operable in cycles to transfer on each cycle a group of articles from the first (11) to the second conveyor (5) with the articles in the group extending in a row transversely of the second conveyor. The apparatus includes a support, a first carriage on the support movable generally parallel to the second conveyor, a second carriage on the first carriage movable with respect to the first carriage generally parallel to the first conveyor, and a third carriage on the second carriage movable vertically with respect to the first and second carriages. The third carriage carries a pusher bar. Each carriage is driven via an endless belt driven mechanism by a motor under the control of a programmable controller which operates the motors during each cycle of the machine to drive the carriages to cause the pusher bar to transfer a group of articles from the first conveyor on to the second conveyor.

    • Plunger mechanism (20) for use in forming a parison (28) from a gob of fluid glass in a mold cavity (30) of an individual section (IS) (26) of a glassware forming machine is fully pneumatically controlled. The plunger mechanisms (20) may be of either a blow-and-blow or press-and-blow type. The plunger mechanism (20) is suspended from the frame (24) of the IS (26) by a plunger case assembly (22). The plunger case assembly (22) allows the plunger mechanisms (20) to be easily interchanged or replaced, to be adjusted to accommodate different types of operation and sizes and configurations of glass article produced, while communicating pressurized air to the plunger mechanisms (20) to achieve these effects. After formation of the parison (28) in the mold cavity (30) the cavity halves (32) separate and the parison (28) is transferred to a blow mold cavity (38) in which the glassware is formed.

    • A pusher mechanism of a bottle forming machine transfers a plurality of glass bottles onto a belt by rotating the bottles through an arc to align the bottles with the belt (72) while moving the bottles at a converging acute angle toward the belt. The movements increase the radius of the path and the speed of the bottles. The centrifugal effect applied to the bottles by the pusher mechanism is limited or reduced without introducing instabilities in the bottles. A nozzle (290) is positioned to counteract instabilities. A takeout mechanism rotates the bottles at an acute angle to the conveyor belt. This initial acute angle reduces the amount of rotation which the pusher mechanism must impart when placing the bottles on the conveyor, thus reducing the possibility of introducing instabilities.
