摘要： A rotary puck conveying mechanism (20) and method will qualify articles and place them within a puck (24) or article handling device. This puck (24) has a centrally disposed opening (70) for receiving the articles. The mechanism includes a centrifugal feeder (22) with a rotatable rim (38) have a plurality of openings (44). Pucks (24) are positioned beneath the openings (44) in order to receive the articles. The pucks (24) will be fed to the centrifugal feeder (20) and aligned with the openings (44) in the rim (38). The pucks (24) will simultaneously move these aligned openings (44) beneath the rim (38). When the articles remaining on the rim (28) are swept off of this rim (28), the pucks (24) or at least a piece of the pucks (24) can then be detached and conveyed away from the centrifugal feeder (22). The pucks (24) are designed to maintain orientation of an article held therein even when the pucks are inverted. The pucks can also have a movable insert (158) for exposing and orienting articles held therein.

摘要： An article handler (1) for orienting and conveying flexible or thin articles (5). The article handler (1) includes a centrifugal drum (10) rotated about a central axis and a rotary disc (20) disposed radially inward of a lower portion of the centrifugal drum (10). The centrifugal drum (10) and rotary disc (20) rotate simultaneously and a circumference of the rotary disc (20) approaches a position adjacent to a ledge (16) on an inner surface of the centrifugal drum (10) at one location as the rotary disc (20) rotates about a slanted axis. Articles (5) which are introduced into the article handler become disposed on the ledge (16) of the centrifugal drum (10) in a singulated fashion. Improperly oriented articles (5) are then removed from the ledge (16), and the properly oriented articles (5) are removed from the ledge (16) of the centrifugal drum (10) by a beveled rotor (51) in a similarly oriented fashion and conveyed to a packing station.
