    • In situ gas flow management equipment disposed within a high pressure industrial gas storage tank wherein interior longitudinally extending thermal management equipment interconnected with an external heat exchanger is installed in the interior of the tank along the central axis thereof and includes a stem extending from one end of the thermal management equipment, a fixed receptacle at an end of the tank disposed in operative relationship with the stem such that longitudinal displacement and axial rotation between the stem and receptacle is permitted, and gas flow controls embedded within the receptacle regulating the flow of gas into and from the tank. A tank assembly including an in situ device within the tank, an external heat exchanger, and control means for refilling and depleting the tank is described with single ended and dual ended examples.

    • Warming high pressure storage tanks for hydrogen, CNG and industrial gases to compensate for thermal and mechanical stresses caused by a low temperature resulting from gas decompression in the tank as gas is depleted from the storage tank and/or environmental exposure of storage tanks in low temperature climate conditions. Heating is accomplished by 1 ) heating the tank system by passing an electrical current through a resistive structural material from which the tank is formed, 2) utilizing an electrical induction heating system to warm a liner in the tank or the polymer fiber composite forming the tank shell, 3) utilizing the Joule- Thomson effect to recover heat from high pressure gas exhausted from the tank and directing the recovered heat to the gas remaining in the tank and/or 4) combining either or both of heating the tank with an electrical current and utilizing an electrical induction system with a Joule-Thomson recovery heater.

    • Absorbent media is installed in a high pressure fuel tank used with CNG or H2 powered motor vehicles. Absorbent media for fuel gas or heat exchange is provided in a predetermined length of a polygon or curvilinear, and, preferably, honeycomb cross sectioned shape with gas absorbent media or heat absorbent media packed therein. Open spaces in the assembly are configured with the tubes or rods to permit gas circulation. Tubes or rods may be installed along the radial or longitudinal axis of a fuel tank. The media rods and/or media tubes include defined physical and gas circulation relationships for maintaining the tubes in a predetermined interrelationship with adjacent volumes of similar shape that are either open, or filled with a heat absorbent media. Gas flow to, from and through the media is determined in accord with the mode of vehicle operation.
