摘要： The present invention is drawn to an encapsulated pigment. The pigment can be encapsulated by both a first polymer layer and a second polymer layer, with the second polymer layer encapsulating the first polymer layer and/or the pigment. The first polymer layer can have less than 2 wt% polymerized acid monomer. The second polymer layer is more hydrophilic than the first polymer layer, and is present at a weight ratio of first polymer layer to second polymer layer of greater than about 1.5:1. Methods of forming an encapsulated pigment are also presented.

摘要： The present invention is drawn to a method of forming an encapsulated pigment dispersion and pigment dispersions that can be prepared therefrom. The method includes mixing a pigment particle in liquid vehicle dispersion with a mini-emulsion of monomers. A redox initiating agent is added to the liquid vehicle and the monomers are polymerized on the surface of the pigment particles. The resulting encapsulated pigment dispersion has a total solid content of at least 12 wt%.
