    • The present invention relates to the rigid support of machine cutting tools. The invention provides a cutting tool, typically a shouldered end mill, and a tool holder therefore, providing rigid support while held in a machine tool spindle. The invention comprises a tool holder for removable connection to a machine tool spindle, the holder having a cylindrical bore of a first diameter terminating in an outer abutment face and configured to rigidly support a cutting tool having a substantially cylindrical shank of a second diameter slightly larger than the first diameter. The tool having a shoulder of a third diameter substantially larger than the first diameter disposed between the shank and the cutting teeth of the tool, the tool being assembled into the cylindrical bore of the tool holder when the tool holder is at a temperature substantially higher than the cylindrical shank, means being provided to apply an axial force on the cutting tool to force the tool shoulder against the outer abutment face of the tool holder.
