    • A gas discharge lamp, such as, for example, a high pressure sodium lamp having a base and sealed outer envelope connected thereto. At least one arc tube is provided within the outer envelope and is electrically and mechanically connected to a support frame. Lead-in connectors (28) extend into the outer envelope to electrically connect the lamp base to the support frame. A connecting member (44) is connected to the arc tube lead(s) furtherest from the lamp base for effecting a weldless electrical and mechanical interference fit between such lead(s) and the connecting member and for preventing axial and radial movement of such lead(s) relative to the connecting member. The connecting member is electrically and mechanically connected to the support frame.

    • An electrode feedthrough assembly for a ceramic arc tube of the type used in high pressure sodium arc lamps. The electrode feedthrough assembly is particularly useful in an external reservoir arc tube wherein an interior region of a feedthrough tube is utilized as a reservoir for the lamp fill material. The electrode feedthrough assembly includes a feedthrough tube (16), an electrode assembly (26) attached to the feedthrough tube (16) and a connection wire (76). The feedthrough tube (16) has a closed end (46) external to the arc tube. The feedthrough tube (16) and the closed end (46) thereof are formed in a single process, preferably by deep drawing, without welding, crimping or fusing. Passages to the interior of the feedthrough tube are provided by crimping the electrode support rod to the feedthrough tube with a six jaw crimping arrangement wherein two of the crimping jaws (64, 65) are shorter than the other four (60-63). The connection wire (76) is attached to the feedthrough tube (16) and includes a portion (80) on the axis of the tube (16). The connection wire (76) assists in retaining the electrode feedthrough assembly in the arc tube (10) during sealing.
